Biography

My name is Gordon Dace. I’m a journeyman mold maker, having completed a 4-½ year apprenticeship at Johnson Outboards in Waukegan, IL in 1978. For 18 years I worked as a die cast die maker, mold maker, prototype machinist & CNC programmer / operator.

In 1990 I accepted a job teaching machining at Trane Co. in LaCrosse, WI. for Western Wisconsin Technical College (WWTC). In 1999 a Machine Shop teaching position at WWTC opened up and I taught machining there until May of 2005.

I’ve been teaching, through WWTC’s economic development department at local industries since 1991. Courses like Basic Blueprint Reading and Geometric Dimensioning &Tolerancing (1982, 1994 and 2009 Y14.5 standards)have had the biggest demand, but I’ve also taught Drills, Threads, Maintenance Machining, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Milling and Turning, Basic G and M codes, Manufacturing Math, Fork Lift Safety, Die-cast Operator and Setup Training, Weld Symbols and Manufacturing Safety.

Recently I’ve put together new employee training that includes safety, time cards, basic print reading, manufacturing math and fork lift training….it’s worked out very well as the new employees are ready to work when they get to the shop floor.

The courses GD&T provide are useful to engineers, purchasing, designers, machinists, fabricators, inspectors, welders, machine operators. They pretty much cover the entire manufacturing area.

In addition to the industrial training, we also own and operate a machine shop. In 1994 our family started a machine shop in Blair, WI. It consists of a couple CNC Mills, and some drill presses. We moved the machines to our new facility in Sparta, WI January of 2005.

If you see any area that GD&T can serve you, or you have an idea that you would like to talk about, please feel free to contact me by phone 1-608-633-1011 or email at gordondace@gmail.com .
